Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into acupuncture points that are known to have specific effects on the body.  Acupuncture points are located along what are called meridians or channels.  Points are chosen according to a patient’s specific imbalance.  Regular stimulation of these points will help bring the body back to balance and reduce or eliminate symptoms.

Typically it is not.  The needles are very fine and are inserted very quickly unlike hypodermic needles which tend to cause pain.

An initial consult includes a history plus a treatment and can take up to an hour.  The average acupuncture treatment is 30 minutes long.  Treatment frequency depends upon your specific condition.  Patients come anywhere from 1 to 3 times per week and the frequency is reduced as symptoms improve.  A patient should expect to notice improvement after 3-6 treatments depending on the severity and duration of the condition.
